Texas paperwork and vehicle classification

Texas TxDMV says it does not title or register standard golf carts, though they can receive a golf-cart license plate from the county tax assessor-collector. That is different from a conventional vehicle title: if someone asks for a Texas title for an ordinary cart, explain what documentation you actually have instead of promising one.

TxDMV also says cities or certain counties can authorize cart operation on specific roads, with a golf-cart plate required on those locally authorized roads. If the cart has a plate or was used on public streets, mention the plate and local context. Keep a bill of sale or other proof of ownership available and check with the county for rules that apply to your cart.

Record any golf-cart plate, where it was used, and the bill of sale or other ownership evidence you have.
